Does Liberal Arts Imply Liberal Teachings?
I am a 49 year old college student. I attend the largest private college university system in Michigan: Baker College.
You would not believe the number of
times I've been punished grade-wise for my conservative views.
Our “Cultural Diversity" class instructor brought in an NAACP rep to
OPENLY CAMPAIGN against Michigan's Proposal 2 - which requires
qualifications instead of race when it comes to jobs. When I
objected, I was given an “F” for my paper on this topic. (BTW, Proposal
2 WON, and the Dem-whiners are now headed to the courts. But wait! Didn't the people just speak????)
But the clincher came November 4 in my
"Creative Writing" class. Somehow our prof switched from
"Character Sketching" to this Rev. Ted Haggard story. He claimed
he was using Haggard to demonstrate how a character can
“backtrack”. At this point, I asked WHY he picked this
story. He stammered with his answer. I asked why he didn't pick
the REAL story of the week: John Kerry as the PERFECT example of a
character “backtracking.”? He said he could have, but he
stammered again to try and explain why he picked Rev. Haggard.
The worst part was how the young
people in this class reacted. Their rude, mocking and
obnoxious behavior by these twenty year old "children" towards me was
SHAMEFUL! There was a time in our history when we respected our
elders. I can remember political debates in Junior High, and they NEVER deteriorated into name calling and mockery!
I left the class in protest and in complete disgust.
Luckily, I start at a new, Conservative, Christian University this Winter term.
